Lawmakers race against the clock to avoid government shutdown
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The clock is ticking for lawmakers as congress is rushing to avoid a federal government shutdown.
Both chambers have to pass a funding bill - and the President has to sign it - by a Friday deadline.
The good news is both parties seem optimistic.
72 senators supported a proposal during a procedural vote Tuesday, but negotiations have continued right up to the final hours.
And, even if lawmakers pass the current plan - they'll only fund the government until December 16th.
