Countdown for Special Master to review Trump documents, lawyers don’t want to disclose everything

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - Former President Trump's lawyers say they do not want to immediately disclose certain declassification information in a special master's review.

In a four-page letter to the special master, Trump's attorneys pushed back against senior U.S. District judge Raymond Dearie's proposal that they submit "specific information regarding declassification" to him in the course of his review.

They have claimed that  unless they decide to fight the FBI search warrant, they should not have to release details about declassification that would also be shared with the Justice Department.

Legal experts say that it may be irrelevant whether the documents were declassified --or not --depending on what, charges are filed.

Meanwhile, this as the countdown is on to look through the thousands of documents taken from Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

Judge Dearie has until the end of November to review about 11,000 documents.

Trump's legal team and the Department of Justice will meet with him Tuesday in a New York courtroom to talk about how the whole process will play out, including a suggested plan by the DOJ.

The big debate right now is over who should be able to look at those documents, and when. The DOJ isn't allowed to look at them until after judge Dearie reviews each one.
