Wisconsin teacher saves student from choking
(CNN) - Last week, a situation at a Wisconsin elementary school could have turned tragic were it not for the quick action of a teacher and the student in danger.
This life-saving moment lets parents know that their kids are safe at school.
"It's not in the job description that a teacher is a superhero," Samantha Wais, the teacher, spoke.
While Wais is not a superhero, she says her students are like her family.
"I want them to know I would do anything for them."
However, that commitment was put to the test when a small moment quickly turned into something much bigger.
"Some of the scariest seconds of my life. It felt a lot longer."
As Bryson Moe ate almonds, like a hero himself, he quickly recognized something was wrong.
"Bryson had come up to me. He had a look of panic."
"It was just scary and everything when I choked," Moe explained.
"I just feel like my mama bear teacher mode kicked in. I just turned him around and started doing the Heimlich. It just was like an instinct."
"She saved my life."
"Was it terrifying? Absolutely."
A real life lesson
After taking a few moments, Wais and her assistant, along with the school nurse, took time to put the students at ease, answering any questions they have.
"That's why we have things in place, so that if something happens, look at all the adults that came to help in case something like this happens," Wais continued.
A real life lesson from some some real-life superheroes.
"I'm just lucky to have my son. I'm very very thankful," Carolyn Moe, Bryson's mother, praised.
While Wais said you'll never know when something like this may happen, she also said it is crucial to pay attention and retain any sort of emergency training.
