San Diego Zoo celebrates baby White Rhino
(CNN) - An adorable baby white rhino born at the San Diego Zoo may offer new hope for an endangered species.
The unnamed Southern White Rhino calf was born on August 6th to a first time mother and father.
There are two subspecies of White Rhinoceros: Southern and Northern.
While there are ten thousand Southern White Rhinos in the wild, but just two Northern White Rhinos left.
The San Diego Zoo's Northern White Rhino Initiative is hoping this baby's mother can some day deliver a Northern White through in-vitro fertilization.
But whether or not that works, animal conservationists say all Rhino births are significant and cause for celebration.
