Virginians place wreaths on graves of fallen Vets

ARLINGTON, Virg. (NBC) - Thousands of volunteers visited Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday to place wreaths at the graves of fallen heroes and service members.

Arlington National Cemetery hosted the annual Wreaths Across America event.

During the event, public placed wreaths on the more than 260,000 headstones throughout the grounds.

More than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states will also participate in wreath laying events.

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott was in attendance at Texas state cemetery's ceremony in Austin.

"What we can do is honor their service and their sacrifice by blanketing their resting places with wreaths of remembrance. With these wreaths, we'll show that we here in Texas will never forget the price that they paid so we can be free," Abbott said.
