GBI arrests father and son in death of unarmed black man
Two suspects arrested two months after shooting 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (FOX News)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested two white men in connection with the shooting death of a black man who had been running through their neighborhood.
Sixty-four-year-old Gregory McMichael, and his 34-year-old son, Travis McMichael, are facing charges of murder and aggravated assault.
Authorities say the shooting occurred in February outside Brunswick, Georgia.
Initially, no charges were filed.
This week, officials had said a grand jury would be convened in a few weeks.
At least part of the incident was captured on cellphone video.
Gregory McMichael told police he suspected the runner was the same man filmed by a security camera committing a break-in in the neighborhood.
He and his son gave chase, blocking 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery as he ran along a street in their neighborhood.
Video appears to show Arbery and one of the McMichaels tussling over a gun.
The gun goes off and Arbery falls to the ground.
National outrage over the case has been building built since the video was released.
