The Hope Center hosts “Hero Hotline” all month long
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A local church is hosting a month-long series titled "Hero Hotline." The series is about the community working together, helping each other out, and calling on each other in times of need.
The service took place at The Hope Center Vacation Bible School (VBS) at 10:00am Sunday. Several young churchgoers dressed up as superheroes for the occasion. These include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and other DC and Marvel comic book superheroes.
One of the church's pastors, Robert Rodriguez, said the COVID-19 pandemic factored into their month-long series.
"I believe since COVID, a lot of people went into seclusion. It hurt a lot people physically, mentally, spiritually, and what we're trying to do is we're trying to break that…thing where the enemy came…to seek, kill and destroy. We want to lift people up. We want to work with people. We want to let our community know that we're here for them. We're not just a building with a title on it. We're actually…We have hearts that love people and build people up," Rodriguez spoke.
During the service, the young superheroes went around and collected churchgoers' donations to buy supplies for home and school. There was also a donation basket where attendees can donate diapers, blankets and bottles that will go to the New Life Pregnancy Center.
"Hero Hotline" will continue until July 30. For more information on the month-long service, click here.
