Top firework safety tips to know before the Fourth of July

Partying in the U-S-A? Make sure to stay S-A-F-E

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Fourth of July is one of the biggest American holidays and it is crucial to keep yourself and others around you safe.

Local authorities advise residents when lighting up fireworks, to stay within their private property and be extra careful with the younger children.

Some of the most common injuries are burns to the hands and eyes and most of those are from illegal fireworks.

Also knowing which fireworks are legal is very important to avoid fines.

“If it explodes or flies in the air, it is not a legal firework. Anytime," stated City of Yuma Council Member Gary Knight.

Explosive fireworks are illegal in the state of Arizona and could even cost individuals a fine of $1,000 if caught.

The safest bet is to enjoy a locally organized firework show display to minimize injuries.
