American Legion Post 9305 helped raise funds for a veteran’s late son
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - This Father’s Day weekend, members of American Legion Post 9305 in El Centro helped put together a fundraiser to help an American Legion brother whose son died late last month.
Agustin Saldana, a member of Post 9305 said, “We’re here because one of our own brothers, his own son. We shouldn't have to bury our own sons, our own kids it's unfortunate.”
Ambrose Ramirez III said he is very blessed and thankful for all the hard work his brothers in Post 9305 have done for him and the support of his family.
Ramirez also said that this year, Father's Day will be a tough one for him without his son.
Many of the veterans remember the hard times of being away from family members during Father's Day while serving the country.
Erick Cortes who served in the Iraq war remembers the frustration of not being with his wife and newborn daughter.
“Every time we had a squad meeting, every day I would bring up ‘hey when am I going to go home, when am I going to go home and see my family, go home and see my daughter’ and they would say I don't know," expressed Cortes.
Six months later, Cortes was finally reunited with his wife and daughter.
