Pills can be deadly in the wrong hands
Yuma County Sheriffs Office teams up with the Drug Enforcement Administration for Take-Back event
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For millions of Americans pharmaceutical medications mean the difference between life and death. But, it's important that their kept out of the reach of others and disposed of properly.
Each year, the Drug Enforcement Administration joins law enforcement agencies across the country to make sure these medications are disposed of properly. The DEA warns if people attempt to dispose of their medication by way of flushing them down the toilet/sink or throwing them in the trash they may contaminate the groundwater.
Another growing problem is people young and old experimenting with other's medications. That can lead to a variety of complications and to a possible accidental overdose.
So, the Yuma County Sheriffs Office is asking all residents to look in their medicine cabinets and search for unused and expired medications. On Saturday, October 23, 2021, deputies and YCSO staff will be collecting those medications at the sheriff's substation on South Frontage Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Now,. there are some exceptions; they will not be accepting liquid medications, syringes, or illegal drugs. All medications will be placed in a sealed box which will later be incinerated.
