Locals express concern about Wiest Lake
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Fighting to save Wiest Lake, locals in Imperial County are trying to rescue the lake after it recently closed due to toxic golden Algae Bloom.
On Monday, the lake had signs of dangerous toxins from algae in its water which can harm people and kill animals.
Locals have pointed out sightings of dead and lethargic fish.
The water levels of the lake are also lower than normal.
Imperial County Department of Public Works has been coordinating efforts with the Imperial County Public Health Department’s environmental health division to monitor Wiest Lake.
Meanwhile, locals hope this lake is saved.
The county has started a plan to revive the lake with an increase in freshwater flow into the lake's swimming area.
