Imperial County is a potential location for lithium, geothermal power production
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County embraces the announcement from Statevolt and Controlled Thermal Resources about the potential 54GWh Gigafactory that would create locally produced lithium and geothermal power in the county.
“The County is encouraged by this major milestone for our region and believes this is another step towards fulfilling the potential of Lithium Valley for a better and brighter Imperial County,” stated Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and District 1 Supervisor, Jesus Eduardo Escobar.
According to the Imperial County information center, they plan for this development to offer the necessary economic boost to residents as it's expected to bring 2,500 jobs to an area that has previously been disadvantaged.
“Imperial County welcomes this announcement and is ready to have conversations with all supply-chain elements of critical mineral and battery production to continue this momentum,” added District 4 Supervisor and Vice Chair of the Lithium Valley Commission, Ryan Kelley.
The Board of Supervisors passed the Lithium Valley Economic Opportunity Investment Plan earlier this year.
