Locals fed up with border crossers
Over 1,000 migrants continue to cross into the Yuma Sector every day, despite Title 42 still in place
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Joy Smart says she has lived in Yuma for 10 years, and has never seen the activity at the wall quite like this.
"I'm more happy going out in my four by four and seeing the animals," Smart said. "Not this. This is ridiculous."
Smart says she drives to the wall and down the Levee Road two to three times a week. Ultimately she blames the Biden Administration for the current situation.
"I feel bad for the farmers, when they’re going through their fields, and they have to destroy stuff, and the mess they leave behind," Smart said. "It’s horrible. Today is the first time I’ve seen any of it cleaned up in months,"
On April 2nd migrants continued to cross into Yuma despite Title 42 still in place.
One group stood at the Morelos Dam gaps waiting to be apprehended by Border Patrol, but no law enforcement was there.
Juan Jose, from Colombia, says he's fleeing his home for his own safety.
“We’re leaving Colombia because there is a lot of violence and they are recruiting minors for the guerrilla wars, so that's why we are coming here," Jose said.
Local Border Patrol Chief Chris Clem told KYMA that over a thousand migrants are crossing into the Yuma Sector every day.
CBP officials say we could see 18,000 daily apprehensions across the entire border when TItle 42 ends.
