Border Patrol apprehends migrants from southeast Asia near San Luis
5 Middle Eastern migrants picked up just the day before
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents say they've made some unusual apprehensions in the past 48-hours. They say they stopped two groups of migrants from very far away - the Middle East and southeast Asia.
Agents patrolling near County 17 1/2 and the Levee Road say they encountered a group of five men Tuesday night who had entered the country illegally. It turns out all five were from Bangladesh.
On-site medical providers screened the men for coronavirus, and cleared them for transport. Agents then ran their names through both the National Targeting Center, and the Terrorist Screening Center. There were no matches, but the men will still face federal charges for illegal immigration.
Then, on Wednesday, agents patrolling on the west side of San Luis, Arizona stopped a group of three men after, they say, the men crossed into the U.S. illegally.
This group was also medically screened for transport before they were taken into custody and interviewed. It turns out this group of men were all from Yemen. They migrants' names did not appear on any watch list, but they too will face federal immigration charges.
