Details about the Idaho murder suspect coming to light
(CNN) - Police have arrested a suspect. This comes more than a month after the gruesome stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students.
A source says authorities started tracking 28-year-old graduate student, Bryan Kohberger, around Christmas during his cross-country drive from Idaho to his parents house in Pennsylvania.
Right now, it's still unclear what his relationship was with the deceased, or the events that led to their deaths.
However, authorities are reaching out to the public if they have any information on Kohberger.
"We still ask is for people to continue to send us things in the tip line," Moscow Police Chief James Fry spoke.
More evidence needed
According to two law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation, his DNA and white Hyundai Elantra links him to the case.
However, authorities need more evidence in order to secure a successful prosecution.
"We are still looking for more information. We're still trying to build that picture just like we have stated all along. We're putting all of the pieces together and that will help," Fry continued.
Kohberger's background
Earlier this year, Kohberger graduated from DeSales University in Pennsyvania with a master's in criminal justice.
"It's someone who has been delving into the inner most sanctums of criminal thinking who is now accused of a particularly horrific crime," CNN Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst John Miller spoke.
In Reddit posts, removed after the arrest went public, a student investigator, named Bryan Kohberger, sought participation in a research project associated with a DeSales university study.
It was “to understand how emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime.”
The post said the study sought to “understand the story behind your most recent criminal offense, with an emphasis on your thoughts and feelings throughout your experience.”
Most recently, he was a graduate student at Washington State University's Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology.
"I'm not at all surprised. [It is] really dishearten[ing] to find out that this suspect is a Ph.D student in criminology at Washington State University. From the outset, we had to understand this was an organized killer," Criminologist Casey Jordan said.
More details
Kohberger was studying and living in Pullman, Washington, just a few miles from the crime scene.
Police searched his university residence Friday morning.
"This is a smart guy who is obsessed with crime," Jordan continued.
Police then arrested Kohberger early Friday morning, giving them a clear focus for their investigation.
“This is not the end of this investigation. But rather a new beginning," Kedick Wills, Idaho State Police Colonel, spoke.
