Local high school student arrested after allegedly bringing gun on campus
YUHSD says no threat to school
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An 18-year-old high school student is behind bars Yuma police said he had a weapon in his possession at school.
News 11 reached out to the Yuma Union High School District. Both law enforcement and the school district confirmed there was a student with a gun on campus, but that there was no threat or danger to the school.
Meanwhile, the Yuma Police Department said officers responded to Vista High School Wednesday afternoon. Police arrested the student Wednesday as well.
YUHSD Chief Communications Officer Eric Patten said the district did not notify parents of the incident because "YUHSD does not notify parents of disciplinary actions of other students."
The 18-year-old student was booked into jail on two charges of carrying a weapon on school grounds and carrying a deadly weapon under the age of 21.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
