Local healthcare providers begin using J&J shot following lift of pause

MGN

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The FDA and CDC lifted the pause on the Johnson & Johnson single dose covid vaccine for all adults following a safety review.

Now local doctors and healthcare companies are figuring out how to move forward.

Use of the Johnson & Johnson shot was paused while health officials examined 15 cases of highly unusual blood clots, mainly affecting women under 50.

Following yesterday’s news out of the CDC, Sunset Health in Yuma County announced they will begin administering the J&J vaccine again along with continuing to use Moderna primarily.

A local doctor, who has administered more than three thousand Johnson & Johnson doses already say the vaccine is safe.

In a statement from Sunset the healthcare company says - “We will have J&J available to agriculture workers who desire the 1-shot option to protect individuals from COVID-19.”

It goes on to say, “prior to the use of j&j sunset will discuss the warnings associated with using j&j with each patient.”

The Arizona Department of Health Services also recommending providers resume using the brand of COVID-19 vaccine.
