Local non-essential businesses preparing to slowly reopen

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Some of the hardest hit non-essential businesses are gearing up to slowly reopen, but there is no set date on when that will happen.

Despite the major decrease in sales, businesses are still offering contact-free services.

Under Governor Ducey’s new guidelines, some retail spots will be able to re-open by appointment only in early May.

Wednesday, Governor Doug Ducey announced the stay-at-home order will be extended till May 15th.

Local businesses downtown, have taken a huge hit during this pandemic.

One local retail spot, in downtown Yuma, is offering curbside pick-up and even shipping.

Joely Leeper, owner of Dream Gift Shop, says, they have still been able to maintain a good level of business but it's not what they're used to.

“It was a sad moment to hear that it was being extended this has been really trying for all of us in small business, when we’re not considered essential.”

“If you are a soul proprietor and you have a way to keep employees distanced or not have your employees come in, you can remain open, with precautions,” she added.
