Man accused of stabbing Cash App founder appeared in court
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The man accused in the fatal stabbing of Cash App founder Bob Lee was in a San Francisco district court Tuesday with a new legal defense team, according to CBS News Bay Area.
It was the first hearing after defense attorney Paula Canny parted ways with suspect Nima Momeni, who then chose a high-profile Florida-based legal team fronted by Saam Zanganeh, CBS News Bay Area reported.
"We're in the process of getting formally accepted to the case. All the applications are in and today at the hearing, the judge recognized our appearance. We set a preliminary hearing and that hearing date is July 31st. And that's when we're gonna have kind of like an evidentiary hearing where the government presents evidence to try to substantiate that claim. Our position's gonna be our position. Once we absorb the evidence and make a determination as to what the best path is forward," Zanganeh spoke.
Prosecutors have suggested that the April 4, 2023, deadly stabbing may have been sparked by a romantic relationship between Lee and Momeni’s sister, according to CBS News Bay Area.
Last month, Momeni pleaded not guilty to the killing. He faces 26 years to life in prison, according to CBS News Bay Area.
