Pres. Biden declares a federal emergency for California amid storms

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - President Joe Biden approved a federal emergency declaration for California as more storm systems carrying high-powered winds and heavy rain advance on the state.

This gives California more resources and allows the involvement of the federal government in coordinating an emergency response.

State leaders noted as of Sunday, 12 people have died as a result of storms over the last 10 days.

Not only that, tens of thousands of people are still dealing with continued power outages this morning.

While today's storm is producing less rain than earlier forecasts, there are also lessening fears of more impactful flooding.

State emergency management officials said they prepositioned several resources. This includes a 28 high-water vehicles and four rescue helicopters from the California national guard.
