New signs installed along Salinity Canal to warn of drowning hazard
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A post to social media by U.S. Border Patrol showed the installation of new signs along the Salinity Canal to warn against dangerous crossings.
Yuma Sector Border Patrol put the signs half a mile apart the canal since migrants usually use the canal as another way to cross into the U.S.
The currents in the canal are dangerous and the banks are too steep to get out of.
Agents are hopeful the signs will deter migrants from crossing and may lessen water rescues compared to 2021, which often put agents at risk as well.
