Yuma Sector Border Patrol continues to encounter large travel parties

More than 170 taken into custody Tuesday morning

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Agents from the Yuma Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol say they continue to encounter unusually large travel parties on their nightly patrols.

Chief Agent Chris Clem posted video of the sector's latest bust on social media Tuesday morning. Agents encountered 171 asylum seekers who had just illegally crossed the border west of Yuma.

Clem says large groups like this are becoming more common.

Just Tuesday, Yuma Sector Border Patrol told News 11's Arlette Yousif it's housing asylum seekers in tents and garages, because they do not have space to house them.

Agents say they've already seen more than 2,500 apprehensions in the first few days of October.
