Police: Phoenix shootout wounds two, causes collision hurting third

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY/AP) - The Phoenix Police Department (PPD) reports the driver of an SUV and a passenger were seriously wounded in a shootout involving an unspecified driver of another vehicle. According to police, a third person in the SUV was subsequently hurt in a collision.

PPD Public Safety Sergeant Ann Justus says it all happened Wednesday evening. The SUV which exchanged gunfire proceeded to then collide with a third vehicle at a nearby intersection.

Sgt. Justus clarifies the two people shot were hospitalized in serious condition while the person hurt in the crash had injuries not considered life-threatening.

She adds that the people in the third vehicle weren’t seriously hurt.

At this time, the PPD is unsure of what prompted the shooting and has not released any identities.
