Police spokesman says suspect ran away, was later detained

TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY/AP) - The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is currently investigating an alleged gunfight that took place on Friday between a plainclothes officer and an unidentified male.

Frank Magos, spokesman for the TPD, says the officer involved was not injured.

The suspect who allegedly shot at the undercover cop has been hospitalized. However, police report his injuries are not life threatening.

Magos says the shooting is due to an "unspecified interaction" between the two men. He says their discussion began around 2:30 p.m., but quickly evolved into a shooting.

He says the alleged gunman ran into an apartment complex across the street after the incident happened.

Police soon detained him, offering first aid to his wounds.
