DPS troopers help deliver baby on the side of the road

Arizona Department of Public Safety

Special delivery! It's a girl!

SALOME, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Two Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) troopers helped deliver a healthy baby girl last Friday.

AZDPS said it was late at night on May 20 when troopers responded to a residential area in Salome, Ariz., to help La Paz County Sheriff's Office secure a scene. Trooper Montiel-Felix and Trooper Russell were approached by three people in a passenger vehicle, asking them to call an ambulance for the passenger in labor.

Troopers immediately called an ambulance and directed the driver to a safe area nearby. When the scene was cleared, both men stayed with the woman waiting for the ambulance arrived. Finally, however, the baby was ready to be born. So, with the support from Trooper Russell, the other occupants in the vehicle, and the efforts of one tough mom, Trooper Montiel-Felix delivered a baby girl on May 21, around 1 in the morning.

Congratulations to the mom and dad on their new bundle of joy!
