Local elementary school district provides free feminine products

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Gadsen Elementary School District #32 was able to get a $24,000 grant back earlier this year to provide students free feminine product kits.

"They've enjoyed having this grant because they've seen the impact its had on students," said Linda Padilla, GESD #32 grant writer.

Padilla says teachers and parents aren't the only ones that are glad Gadsden got this grant. So are the female students.

"They feel heard, that they appreciate having these feminine hygiene kits which are made specifically for teenage girls and preteens," Padilla shared.

It's also be a big help financially.

"We understand periods are expensive, the products are very expensive, it is an expense that is unavoidable to families," Padilla expressed.

One local, Carol Schock, agrees saying, "Some kids can’t afford it so that way they can have what they need."

Another mom, Maria Luisa Lopez, says it's good for school to always have these products on hand saying, "Maybe yeah, it has something to do with the nurse, maybe an accident happens."
