Salvation Army has new location, same mission of service remains
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma's Salvation Army has moved to a new location at 445 S. 4th Avenue.
The relocation culminates a four-year project with a total price tag of $2.5 million.
The Salvation Army offers many support systems for the community including a utility bill program, religious services, as well as food boxes.
Lt. Johnathan Herzog who oversees the operations of the Salvation Army Yuma location said, “We work hand in hand with community partners to address those urgent needs and a good example of that is what we hope to do with our feeding program we don't just want to be a hand out but a hand up.”
With the extreme heat, the Salvation Army offers free water and serves as a cooling center.
Herzog said that their cooling center provides essential items, “Like cooling towels, heat relief bags and kits and sunscreen. We’re able to provide a mobile heat relief as well through water and electrolytes and drip drop.”
The cooling center is open Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
