Power outages continue in Imperial County

SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Families in Salton City and Desert Shores are still without power after strong winds knocked down more than 70 power poles.

About 1,100 families were affected due to the high winds leaving them with no power.

The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) said it is working to help those affected by the high winds.

"We want to remind our customers to be patient. We are working 24 hours a day to restore the power as soon as we can," said IID Public Information Officer Antonio Ortega.

Meanwhile schools are currently closed and the winds continue to blow.

Some residents like Maria Rascon had to borrow a generator.

"It affects me. I don't have internet, I don't have anything and I have my work office here too. I work from home. I need to make phone calls. I can't receive message, nothing," said Maria Rascon.

Other residents reacting after the Imperial Irrigation District said it could take from five to 10 days for power to be fully restored.

"It's hard to swallow. It really is. I really hope they can get it done in a certain amount of time but for now we just have to find other resources and figure out other way to survive," said Adrian Charez, a Salton City resident.

The IID advises residents to stay away from power lines and to treat them as live wires.
