13-year-old boy dies in Can-Am accident
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Two young teenagers were driving a Can-Am on Tuesday morning when the vehicle overturned causing the death of one of them.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) says around 11:33 a.m. on Dec. 27, the driver who was a 13-year-old boy, and the passenger who was a 14-year-old boy were driving out of El Centro, Calif.
Deputies say they were driving a 2018 Can-Am eastbound on a private dirt lot located around Old Highway 111 and south of Evan Hewes Highway.
CHP says for an unknown reason, the driver wasn't able to maintain control of the vehicle which ended up overturning and he was ejected from the Can-Am.
The 13-year-old died from their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 14-year-old was able to leave the Can-Am without injuries says CHP.
Impairment doesn't seem to be a factor in the crash, but only the 14-year-old teen was wearing his seatbelt and both weren't using helmets, mentions CHP.
This case is under investigation.
