Man sentenced to 40 months for attempting to smuggle fentanyl
Carlos Obed Moreno attempted to smuggle fentanyl pills in his boots
TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A 32-year-old man living in Mexico as a U.S. citizen was sentenced to 40 months in prison for attempting to smuggle fentanyl pills for payment on Sept. 27, 2022.
Carlos Obed Moreno also previously pled guilty for the Importation of Fentanyl into the United States.
Moreno was going to cross into the U.S. from Mexico at the De Concini Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona on January 6, 2022.
A Border Protection Officer noticed a knife in Moreno's waistband and conducted a pat-down on him and noticed Moreno's boots stuffed with packages.
Moreno's boots was stuffed with packages that contained about 628.1 grams of blue fentanyl pills.
