San Luis Mayoral candidates gear up for the primary election
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - With about three weeks until the Arizona Primary Election, the two candidates running for Mayor of San Luis are campaigning in full swing.
Nieves Riedel, former Mayor of San Luis and owner of Riedel Construction, along with the current Mayor of San Luis, Gerardo Sanchez are the two candidates in the race.
Unlike most primary elections, the San Luis candidates signed a pact to a clean campaign.
“We all agree that we’re going to run a clean campaign because campaigns in San Luis, Arizona they’re brutal. People tend to take things personal, and being the defensive to personal attacks, I don’t believe in any of that,” said Riedel.
This is a way for candidates to focus on issues pertaining to the city and not attacking their opponents.
Mayor Sanchez says San Luis has grown close to 125 percent over the past ten years.
“San Luis, Arizona is growing but we need to be smart about it, so we also need to look for the proper investments. My emphasis will be jobs, my emphasis will be bringing businesses into San Luis, Arizona,” said Sanchez.
Riedel says her focus is traffic, saying that the growth of the city on top of the port of entry has overwhelmed San Luis.
“San Luis has only two entrances or two exits, we need to expand on that. It’s a must,” said Reidel.
