El Centro police say argument led to shooting that left one minor dead
Argument at party led to shooting outside - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A moment of silence was held for 17-year-old Avyeontay Mcgee at what was supposed to be his graduation.
Mcgee was set to graduate from Desert Valley High School on Thursday, but his mother is now planning his funeral instead.
Mcgee was killed last Saturday after police say an argument at a house party near Heil Avenue and Fourth Street ended with a deadly shooting.
One other man is in critical condition fighting for his life.
Mcgee's death comes just one month after his older brother was shot at in a drive-by shooting in Brawley. His brother survived and the suspected driver will be back in court later this month.
Detective Miguel Garrido with ECPD says there were many minors involved.
"A lot of witnesses still need to be located and interviewed, there were a lot of minors involved that were there present so we have to track them down we are currently working on that," he said.
Garrido says an argument at this party led to a physical altercation outside which led to the shooting.
Nohama Hernandez is Mcgee's mother who says she is devastated. She released a statement exclusively to KYMA.
"I want justice for my son, I want to know who killed my son, I wasn’t even able to see my baby at the hospital that day and they haven’t given me any information."Â

A gofundme has been started for Mcgee to help his family with his funeral expenses. Other residents around the community also described Mcgee as a loving and caring kid.
