It’s simple if you pay taxes, your state is your business

A public interest group and the Arizona Treasury want citizens to take a vested interest in their state

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - If you pay income tax, property tax, or sales tax. Your hard-earned money is being invested to enrich the lives of those around you, and mainly you.

So in an essence, your state is your business and like any other business, oversight is key. That's why the Arizona Public Interest Group and the Arizona Treasury want Arizonans to look a little closer and follow the money.

AZ PIRG Executive Director Diane Brown says that transparency is essential to maintaining an honest system of checks and balances. The Arizona Treasury offers extensions on its website detailing where the state receives funds and where those funds are spent.

Arizona has also launched its own transparency website to keep Arizonans informed. The site breaks down each and every financial element and even allows users to check how much each county receives from the state government.
