Migrant nearly drowned in Briar Canal, rescued by agents
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - United States Border Patrol agents designated to the El Centro Sector saved an illegal immigrant who nearly drowned in the New Briar Canal.
The almost-fatal incident happened on Friday.
At about 11:49 p.m., the Remote Video Surveillance Operators (RVSS) followed a person who was illegally entering the U.S.
RVSS captured the individual swimming across the canal and exiting the All-American Canal (AAC).
They started to dive into a second canal, the New Briar Canal, which runs parallel to the AAC.
This was in an attempt to go north by simply floating across.
Video surveillance showed the difficulty the individual was facing in the water.
Agents in the field were notified after the struggle of the individual and went to offer aid to them.
At around 12:20 a.m., agents were on the scene to bring the person to safety.
They did not have the required documentation to be legally present in the U.S. and were arrested then taken to the El Centro Sector Centralized Processing Center for further medical attention and processing.
