PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY/ AP) - An outdoor, public ceremony will be hosted in honor of the almost 28,000 Arizona residents who died of COVID-19.

On Monday, the first ever COVID-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day will be held at the Arizona Heritage Center in Tempe, Ariz.

What's to be expected at the memorial are a display of photos of those who died of COVID-19, a COVID-19 memorial quilt and comments from those in the public medical field.

Free COVID-19 testing will be available on-site from Embry Health.

The state has reported 27,708 deaths from the virus.

As the world enters its third year with the pandemic, the death toll has exceeded 6 million.
