Civilian targets outcry, response could cost Americans more money
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - U.S. lawmakers are talking about hitting Russia where it hurts most by handing out energy sanctions, attacking their oil, after more and more difficult images come out of Ukraine.
Russian attacks are killing civilians and have caused more than a million people to flee to neighboring countries. This includes the firing at Europe's largest nuclear power plant overnight.
In turn, banning Russia's oil could cost average Americans even more money.
President Biden says that idea is on the table, but there are negative effects that could come along with their ideas.
"What he does not want to do is topple the global marketplace or impact the american people more with higher energy and gas prices," said White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki.
Americans are already paying more for other things due to lingering supply chain problems from the pandemic.
Now, the war is adding to shipping problems and inflation.
