U.S. car crashes reach a 15-year high in 2021
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The first six months of 2021 logged the largest increase of highway crashes and fatalities in at least 15 years.
New data released shows more than 20,000 people died from traffic-related deaths from January 2021 to June 2021.
That represents an 18% increase over 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The sharp increase could be connected to the number of miles vehicles traveled increased by about 13%, but other data shows more motorists are speeding and driving without seatbelts than before the pandemic.
