3-year-old boy dies from drowning in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A three-year-old boy died after drowning in a pool on Sunday, according to the Yuma Fire Department (YFD).

Paramedics received the drowning call just after 2:30 p.m. on Yuma's west side.

YFD officials say the child was found unresponsive in the backyard pool.

The child was pulled out from the pool and was given CPR before paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued to resuscitate the child on their way to Yuma Regional Medical Center; where he was pronounced dead.

Fire officials say they do not know how long the child was in the pool before he was found. However, they believe the boy got out of the house by the doggie door that leads to the yard.

The Yuma Fire Department wants the community to be aware of the ABC's of drowning prevention.
