Agents seize $550K of narcotics over the weekend

TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Tucson Sector Border Agents arrested two smugglers and seized over 150 pounds of meth, fentanly and heroin over the weekend.

Agents say incidents occurred over three seperate events.

Saturday morning, agents at the Interstate 19 Checkpoint near Amado sent a Nissan SUV to secondary inspection. There, agents found various packages of drugs, leading agents to arrest the driver.

Agents say she is a 37-year old Legally Admitted Permanent Resident from Nogales. Testing determined the packages contained meth and fentanyl.

That same morning, agents seized over 60 pounds of meth from a 38-year-old Mexican man arrested during their encounter in the desert near Ajo.

Agents say both subjects arrested Saturday will be prosecuted for federal drug smuggling charges.

On Friday, agents south of Three Points discovered a backpack containing small bundles of heroin, marijuana, and fentanyl (Pictured above).

Agents say the backpack was presumably abandoned by a smuggler.
