CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)- Retail stores in Imperial County finally got the green light to reopen, but with social distancing measures in place.

“Coronavirus has caused a lot of problems. It’s had an impact on my business. It's been difficult, but we are open now. I've only been open for an hour and I have people already shopping,” said Jang Yong, Diva’s Fashion.

Yong is happy the county has finally allowed for retail stores to reopen, but says business won't be the same with restrictions at the border.

All non-essential travel at the U.S. Mexico border has been extended to June 22nd.

One store owner says 80% of his customers live in Mexicali.

The only reason he’s still in business is because he hasn't paid rent.

“I haven’t paid rent and i'm not planning to pay rent. Even now I'm open but I'm not making any business. What am I going to make 100 or 200 dollars a day. that's not even enough for my expenses,” said David Dahdoul, store owner.

Dahdoul hopes restrictions at the border get lifted soon so business can get back to normal.
