Diego’s Mexican Food prepare for the new normal
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Arizona's Governor Doug Ducey is allowing restaurants to reopen their dining rooms starting today.
The announcement of reopening dining rooms in Yuma is a sign of relief for Diego’s Mexican restaurant owner, Luis Alzero.
Due to the pandemic, Alzero was forced to reduce his employee's hours. However, Luis tells News 11 he saw a light at the end of the tunnel.“Just last week I had to call those part-time employees back to work because work started picking up," said Luis.
During the month he was forced to reduce his employee's hours. “During that time we lost a lot of sales, we lost up to 20 to 30 percent of those sales. It was a hard process," said Luis.
He said he felt a huge weight off his shoulders when Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced in-dining service could resume. Luis is aware that several believe it's too soon, but he stresses that owners like himself have a responsibility to their employees to make sure they have income to care for their loved ones.
“We rely on those customers to keep our business afloat, I know health is important, but we need to work because we all need the money," said Luis.
As of now, Luis said he is ready to move forward to a new normal while following CDC rules.
