A day without women in Mexicali
Increase in murders against women prompts strike
MEXICALI, Baja California, Mexico - Women across Mexicali will be joining others across the country on Monday, March 9 to strike against the recent increase in murders against women.
It could potentially be one of the biggest strikes of its kind. Women are being encouraged to not show up to work, in order to shed light on the murders.
Women are also being asked to not support any local companies and boycott their products.
The national business sector as well as local governments have said they are in favor of this strike.
Mexicali's president, Marina del Pilar Avila, said that all female government workers can choose not to go to work and it won't be counted against them.
There is a security detail in place across Mexicali to ensure everyone's safety.
