Crane Schools to get three school counselors
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, 13 On Your Side, KECY) - Thanks to a generous $399,600 grant, local elementary schools can fund new jobs.
The highly competitive grant was awarded by the Arizona State Board of Education. The board reviewed over 900 applications.
“It was pretty competitive so the fact that we did win was amazing and I am still in a bit of shock," said Bobbie Henry, the principal at Pueblo Elementary. "It's been a long time since we’ve had this level of support for our school.”
Pueblo Elementary, as well as Gary A. Knox and Salida Del Sol are the schools benefiting from the grant. Each school will get a full time counselor for the next three years.
“We’re getting a counsellor who’s going to take care of our students needs,” Margarita Estrada, a teacher at Pueblo elementary, said.
The schools are wasting no time getting to work and are hoping to have the counsellors start before the end of this school year.
