Toddler in SUV uninjured
YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Somerton Cocopah firefighters were called to the scene of an unusual accident Thursday afternoon along Avenue D just south of County 15th.
Firefighters say the arrived to find a Cadillac Escalade on the west shoulder, and a Ford F-150 in the middle of the road. The Escalade had damage to its driver side. It had been hard enough to deploy the air bags. The pickup had damage to its front passenger side.
A witness says the Ford was coming up County 15th when the vehicle in front of it stopped at the Avenue D intersection. The witness say the truck suddenly swerved around the stopped car, then braked hard, sliding into the intersection and slamming into the SUV.
The Escalade's driver suffered a leg injury. Paramedics took her to the hospital. A three-year-old in the SUV was not hurt because he was properly strapped into a car seat. The driver of the truck was also unharmed.
Still no word on what caused the Ford to unexpectedly swerve into the intersection. Somerton police are investigating.
