MCAS Yuma commanding officer completes parachuting school

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT)-The Commanding Officer at MCAS Yuma is presented with a certificate after completing the U.S. Army Free Fall Parachuting School Tuesday.

MCAS Yuma reported Colonel (Col) David A. Suggs took command of the station in June of 2017 and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. 

In June 1991, he attended the Marine Corps Officer Candidate Course (OCC) in Quantico, VA, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August 1991. Throughout his career, Col. Suggs moved up in rank. He has also deployed to places such as Japan and Iraq.

According to MCAS Yuma, his awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (with strike/flight numeral “13”), Air Medal (with individual/flight numeral “2” with combat V), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with 3 awards and combat V), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit awards and campaign medals. 

Col. Suggs is accompanied by his wife and two children and is currently the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
