Community speaks about the future of DACA
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday considered the Trump administration’s plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals ( DACA ) program.
President Barack Obama implemented the program in 2012. It protects undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children from deportation.
There are students at Arizona Western College who are protected under the DACA program. The list of students is confidential.
Via Twitter, President Trump said ” Many of the people in DACA , no longer very young, are far from “angels.” Some are very tough, hardened criminals. ”
However, one employee at AWC disagrees.
” Do I think it’s fair? No, ” said Donna Lay, an Experiential Learning Specialist. ” I think they should be given the opportunity to become Unified States Citizens so they have an opportunity to stay. ”
There are over 700,000 people currently enrolled in the program.
