Border Patrol adapting to human smugglers tactics

CBP / Glenn Fawcett

The Yuma Sector Border Patrol confirms that in recent years the agency has seen an increase in human smuggling tactics efforts at the southern border.

” If we look back to 2005, we had 138 thousand apprehensions, the vast majority were Mexican nationals looking to escape apprehension, ” said Agent Jose Garibay with the Yuma Sector Border Patrol.

Agent Garibay said that not only has human smuggling increased, but also narcotics. In recent years agents have seen a switch in the type of drug used like meth.

” For them why would they start smuggling something that doesn’t get smugglers money as like meth to make more and it’s lighter, ” said Garibay .
