Arizona enacting internet sales tax
You have probably noticed the cost of your online orders increasing this month. It’s not your imagination, Arizona is now enforcing a sales tax for out-of-state and online companies.
Azcentral reports the change was implemented on October 1 and is projected to rake in millions of dollars for Arizona.
But how much it will cost Arizona consumers? According to the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR), this varies and depends entirely on state and county combined rates where items are shipped.
The law was made possible by a 2018 Supreme Court allowing states to require businesses without a physical presence to collect and pay tax on sales from in-state transactions, Azcentral reported.
ADOR said Arizona tax differs from other states because it makes the seller responsible for the tax.
Companies will choose whether to pass it on to the customer.
