Phoenix gets first female county attorney
Maricopa County has its first female county attorney.
Thursday morning the Board of Supervisors named Allister Adel its new top prosecutor. Adel fills the vacancy left by Bill Montgomery’s appointment to the Arizona Supreme Court.
Adel is the first woman to officially serve as county attorney. Although another woman, Rachel Mitchell, did hold the position on an interim basis. Mitchell’s best known for questioning Christine Blasey Ford about the sexual assault accusation she leveled against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh .
Adel’s background includes positions as a prosecutor, as an administrative law judge, and as general counsel for the Arizona Department of Child Safety.
She’ll complete the remainder of Montgomery’s term. It ends in January 2021.
