Man leaps to his death at Grand Canyon
A man leaps to his death. Now operators of the Grand Canyon Skywalk are considering whether they need more security.
Investigators say a 28-year-old man leaped to his death from the tourist attraction late Saturday afternoon. They recovered his body Sunday.
A Chinese tourist also plunged to his death in March, but his death was accidental. He was taking a photo at the time.
Attraction operator Grand Canyon West said in a statement Monday it’s exploring whether new policies are needed to prevent future accidents.
The Skywalk first opened in 2007. It’s a horseshoe-shaped glass walkway that juts out 70-feet over the Canyon, giving visitors a birds eye view of the Colorado River.
The vertical drop from the walkway is between 500 and 800 feet . Safety barriers are in place.
